These terms apply when you buy products from Ama’s Rustic Pantry through our website. Please read them before you place an order. By placing an order you agree to be bound by them.
They do not apply to trade or wholesale orders, which are arranged directly with us and invoiced separately.
Nothing in these terms reduces your legal rights as a consumer. If anything here conflicts with those rights, your legal rights take precedence.
1. Information about us
We are Indirani Viknaraja, trading as Ama’s Rustic Pantry, a sole trader based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Address for service of documents: 47 Malvern Road, Cambridge, CB1 9LH
Email: contact@amasrusticpantry.com
We are registered as a food business with Cambridge City Council.
2. Our products
Every jar of Ama’s Rustic Pantry chutney is made by hand in small batches using natural ingredients.
Because our products are handmade, there will be small variations between batches in colour, texture and consistency. This is a normal characteristic of small-batch production and is not a fault.
The images on our website are for illustration. Although we try to display colours and packaging accurately, we cannot guarantee that your device shows them exactly. Product packaging may vary from that shown.
3. Ingredients and dietary information
Full ingredient and allergen information for every product is shown on the product page before you buy, and on the label of the jar.
Our chutneys have no known allergens, and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Please read the product page and the jar label before eating. If you have a food allergy, intolerance or medical condition and you would like more detail about a particular product, contact us at contact@amasrusticpantry.com before ordering and we will be glad to help.
4. How the contract between us is formed
Placing an order. When you complete checkout and pay, you are making an offer to buy the products in your basket.
Acknowledgement. We will send you an email acknowledging that we have received your order. This acknowledgement is not acceptance of your order.
Acceptance. The contract between us is formed only when we send you an email confirming that your order has been dispatched. Only the products listed in that dispatch confirmation are included in the contract.
If we cannot accept your order. If we are unable to supply a product, for example because it is out of stock, because of an error in the price or description, or because we cannot deliver to your address, we will contact you and will not process your order. If you have already paid, we will refund you in full as soon as possible.
5. Price and payment
The price of a product is the price shown on the product page at the time you place your order. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged on your order.
Delivery charges are shown separately at checkout before you pay. The total shown at checkout is the total you will be charged.
Payment is taken at the time you place your order and is processed securely by Stripe. We accept the payment methods shown at checkout. We do not see or store your card details at any point.
Pricing errors. We try to make sure prices are accurate. Very occasionally a product may be mispriced. If the correct price is higher than the price shown, we will contact you before dispatch and ask whether you wish to continue at the correct price or cancel. If the correct price is lower, we will charge the lower amount.
Price changes. We may change our prices at any time, but changes will not affect orders we have already accepted.
6. Delivery
How we deliver. We send orders within the United Kingdom by Royal Mail. At checkout you can choose between Second Class, First Class and Tracked 48. The cost depends on the number of jars in your order and the service you pick.
Dispatch time. We aim to dispatch orders within three working days of receiving them. Because everything is made in small batches, occasionally a product takes a little longer. If there is likely to be a significant delay we will contact you.
Delivery charges. Delivery charges depend on the number of jars in your order and the service you choose. The full table is on our Delivery and Returns page, and the exact cost for your order is always shown at checkout before you pay.
How long delivery takes. The total wait is our dispatch time plus Royal Mail’s transit time. Royal Mail aims to deliver Second Class in two to three working days, First Class in one to two working days, and Tracked in two working days. These are aims rather than guarantees. If your order is running late, contact us. If we still cannot deliver within a reasonable further period, you may cancel and we will refund you in full.
Larger orders. You can order up to six jars through the website. If you would like more than six, please contact us at contact@amasrusticpantry.com and we will quote you for postage. Orders arranged this way are still covered by these terms.
Delivery areas. We deliver to addresses throughout the United Kingdom. We do not currently ship overseas.
If nobody is home. Our jars are glass and are packed to be posted. If your order does not fit through the letterbox and nobody is available, Royal Mail will leave a card and either attempt redelivery or hold the parcel at your local delivery office. It is your responsibility to arrange redelivery or collection within the period Royal Mail allows. If a parcel is returned to us because it was not collected, we will refund the price of the products but not the original delivery charge, and we may charge again for redelivery.
When you become responsible for the goods. The products are your responsibility from the time they are delivered to the address you gave us.
When you own the goods. You own the products once we have received payment in full.
If delivery is delayed or fails. If delivery is delayed by an event outside our control, we will contact you as soon as possible and take steps to minimise the delay. If your order has not arrived within 10 working days of the dispatch confirmation, please contact us and we will investigate with Royal Mail. Royal Mail treats an item as lost only after a set period, so we may need to wait before we can resend or refund.
7. Changing your mind
This section and the next one cover two different situations, and they work in completely different ways:
- You have changed your mind and there is nothing wrong with the chutney. That is this section. There is a 14 day limit and it only covers unopened jars.
- Something is wrong with what arrived. That is section 8. The 14 day limit does not apply, it does not matter whether the jar has been opened, and your rights are much broader.
Because you are buying online, you have a legal right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to change your mind and cancel, in most cases within 14 days of receiving your order.
When this right applies
You may cancel and return unopened jars with the seal intact within 14 days of the day you receive them.
When this right does not apply
You cannot cancel a jar once its seal has been broken. Food products are sealed goods which, for health protection and hygiene reasons, are not suitable for return once unsealed. This is a specific exception set out in the Regulations.
This does not affect your rights if a product is faulty, damaged or not as described. Those rights are covered in section 8 and are not affected by whether the jar has been opened.
How to cancel
Tell us clearly that you wish to cancel, before the 14 day period ends. You can:
- Email us at contact@amasrusticpantry.com, or
- Write to us at the address in section 1, or
- Complete and send the model cancellation form at the end of these terms
You do not have to use the form. A clear statement is enough. We will acknowledge your cancellation by email.
Returning the products
You must send the products back to us within 14 days of telling us you wish to cancel.
You are responsible for the cost of return postage and for packing the products so they arrive undamaged. We recommend a tracked service, as you remain responsible for the products until we receive them.
Return address: 47 Malvern Road, Cambridge, CB1 9LH
Your refund
We will refund the price you paid for the products, plus the standard delivery charge you paid to receive them. If you chose a more expensive delivery option than our cheapest standard service, we will refund only the cost of the standard service.
We may reduce your refund to reflect any reduction in the value of the products caused by you handling them more than was necessary to establish their nature and characteristics.
We will make the refund within 14 days of receiving the products back, or within 14 days of you providing evidence that you have sent them, whichever is earlier. We will refund to the payment method you used.
8. If something is wrong with your order
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, products we supply must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
If a product is faulty, damaged in transit, or not what you ordered, please contact us at contact@amasrusticpantry.com as soon as you can, ideally with a photograph. Do not throw the product or its packaging away until we have agreed what to do, as we may need it.
Please tell us promptly, ideally within 14 days of delivery. That is a request rather than a deadline and it does not affect your legal rights, but the sooner we know, the easier it is for us to investigate with Royal Mail and put things right for you.
Your rights in summary:
- Within 30 days of delivery: you can reject the order and receive a full refund, including what you paid for delivery.
- After 30 days: we will replace the jar or refund you.
- Damaged in transit: breakages on the way to you are our responsibility, not yours. Contact us and we will replace or refund.
None of this is limited to 14 days, and it applies whether or not the jar has been opened. These rights last up to six years from delivery in England and Wales, or five years in Scotland, although after the first six months we may ask you to show that the problem was there when the jar arrived.
What counts as a fault. A fault means something was wrong with the jar at the point we sent it to you. It does not cover a jar that has gone past the best before date on the label, or one that has not been stored in the way the label describes. The small differences in colour, texture and consistency between batches, described in section 2, are not faults either.
We pay the return postage for faulty, damaged or incorrect goods.

9. Our liability to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
We do not exclude or limit our liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of your legal rights in relation to the products, and under Part I of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
Our website is set up for personal orders. If you are buying for a business, please contact us at via our contact form – we offer trade pricing and supply on separate terms, agreed and invoiced directly. Where products bought through this website are used for a commercial or business purpose, we will have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
10. Events outside our control
We are not liable for any failure to perform, or delay in performing, our obligations under these terms where that failure or delay is caused by an event outside our reasonable control, including postal or courier disruption, extreme weather, fire, flood, power failure, or the failure of public or private telecommunications networks.
If such an event occurs, we will contact you as soon as possible and our obligations will be suspended for the duration of the event. If the delay is substantial, you may contact us to cancel and receive a refund for any products you have paid for but not received.
11. Complaints
If you are unhappy with a product or with the service you have received, please contact us at contact@amasrusticpantry.com. We take complaints seriously and will do our best to put things right.
If we cannot resolve your complaint, you may be able to take the matter to an alternative dispute resolution provider, or contact Citizens Advice using the details in section 8.
12. Other important terms
Transferring the contract. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We will contact you if this happens and will make sure the transfer does not affect your rights.
Nobody else has rights under this contract. This contract is between you and us. No other person has any right to enforce any of its terms.
Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unlawful, the rest will continue in force.
Delay in enforcing. If we do not insist that you do something you are required to do under these terms, or if we delay in taking steps against you in respect of a breach, that will not mean we have waived our rights.
Governing law. These terms are governed by English law and you may bring legal proceedings in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you may bring proceedings in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
